Not too long ago I was asked the question: “how do you change the world?” To which I responded “one act of kindness at a time.”
I believe that everyday there is an opportunity to make a difference. Whether that’s saying “hello” to a person as they walk by, holding open a door, or even a simple compliment has the ability to brighten someones day.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I can do more, and I would like to share with you what a special non-profit organization is doing to change lives in Africa.
Simunye Trust is the realization of a unique vision, where they work to benefit two distinctive groups of people in Africa. The way in which they do this, is by purchasing varied and unique handcrafts from African artisans in need, thereby assisting them in supporting themselves and their families. After these treasures have been purchased, they’re then sent to the U.S. and all proceeds go to the Red Cross Children’s War Memorial Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa.
The Children’s War Memorial Hospital is the only hospital in sub-Saharan Africa dedicated exclusively to the care of children.
From bracelets to baskets, bears and more it’s clear that the artists take great pride in their handcrafted masterful works. (Below I’ve added photos of some of these treasures.)
When I first heard about Simunye Trust, I was instantly hooked and wanted to know how I could support. I purchased one of the beaded bracelets and instantly had an overwhelming feeling of joy and hope, knowing that I’ve made a difference.
SPECIAL EVENT: If you live in the Los Angeles area and would like to see these wonderful works in person, there will be a special Simunye Trust event Nov. 4- Nov.6 at Weathervane in Santa Monica.

Simunye means ‘we are one’ and in a world were there is so much negativity, I believe that we have more that holds us together than tears us apart. We can all make a difference by spreading a message of hope and love.
Stay fabulous and much love,
